Is it Time to Re-design Your
Website?
Re-designing is a serious issue with a website. This
could be help or harm your ranking, it could affect your ROI
(return over investment), it can affect your
navigation-ability, usability and so on. Hence, you need to
pay close attention about the reasons and the time when you
need to redesign your website and only when you think this
has to be done at any cost, should you go for it.
The Best Time to Redesign Would Depend On the Reasons by
Which It Is Dictated
1. Loosing money – if you find that you are loosing
money, you need to look carefully where you might have gone
wrong. This would not mean only the design but all other
aspects regarding your website, such as ranking, attracting
targeted traffic, prices of your product, and so on. When
you are loosing money, it is a good time to stand back and
take a hard look at the designing of your website – and
redesign it.
2. Changing of format – is your website an
informative site which needs to be changed into an order
on-line site? Then this is a valid reason to redesign. This
would offer more convenience to your customers who would be
inclined to increase their business with you.
3. Adding value – many times the feedback would tell
you what the major flaws with your website are. You need to
go through the feedbacks regularly and analyze where and how
you would be able to improve on it. This is a very valid
reason to redesign your website and any time you feel that
you can add value to the website – it a good reason and time
to redesign.
4. Marketing strategy – if you have started with a
marketing strategy that is giving lukewarm results and you
have worked out a better one, which requires redesigning of
the website for different reasons, such as – better
navigability, faster loading, improved graphics, faster
check out time, and so on - then this is a good time (and
reason) to redesign your website.
5. Looks of the website – maybe when you started out
you were an amateur who just had the basics mastered. Now
you have a lot of experience and you find that your website
looks pathetically inadequate. You feel that better looks
would result in a stickier website whereby you could enjoy a
higher a ROI. If this is so, this is again a good time for
redesigning.
When you plan redesigning you should keep in mind that the
results could go either way. Hence, you should be extremely
careful when you go for this exercise as it involves a
greater effort to redesign than to design a website and
unless you do well in the first attempt, you would have to
keep tweaking it to bring in the "right" look to it. The
timing is just as critical as the reasons for which you are
planning the change. Take action only when you are assured
that there is no better way out.
